I'm currently on holiday with my friends in Penzance in Cornwall, and I needed a bottle of wine for something I was cooking for (sadly I was only cooking for one of my friends, as a whilst all my friends are great, I do seem to gravitate towards the fussiest people when it comes to food). Despite Lidl claiming to have a large selection of wines, when I visited it seemed that most of their shelves were just stocking the same bottles. There were very few wines from brands I knew; most of the wine on sale had was simply labeled as "Sauvignon Blanc" or "Merlot" or "Shiraz". Lidl's website lists a lot more wines than were on display, so maybe the shop was due a delivery?
The label on the bottle describes the wine as "crisp and frisky". Whilst I know what "crisp" means when it comes to wines, "frisky" is new to me. Does it mean that the wine is meant to act as an aphrodisiac? Am I meant to be the frisky one here? Does it mean that this is the wine to drink if one is to make bad decisions of a sexual nature?
The wine is actually not that bad. It's drinkable, but I wouldn't consider it anything special. It's very dry (as I like), and has some pleasant citrus and "maybe peach but I can't be sure" notes (there is no information about it on Lidl's website to inform me, so this is what I can deduce at 11:30pm after drinking almost the whole bottle. I can't get a second opinion because none of my friends here drink wine). Considering the price it's pretty good (also apparently my ideas about what is cheap are higher than my dads, who thinks that £5 for a bottle of wine is a lot to spend, and would only pay that if he was buying it as a gift for someone), and I would get it again if I needed a white wine for cooking and drinking by myself.
(AUTHORS NOTE - Okay so I drank this over the course about 4.5 hours and at the time I felt fine. However this morning I have got quite an unpleasant hangover-y headache.)
