Whiplash "Never Cursed"

Welcome back to Booze Reviews! I know I said in the last post that the following reviews would likely all be of different types of alcohol, but NOPE, the next few will all be of beer!

There is a story as to how I acquired these beers, but that must wait, as I must pre-warn you that I do not like beers very much. Sure, I like lager (I'm was a student that was pretty much a requirement), but almost all other beers are just unpleasant in my opinion. So that's what this series of posts will be about, beers that I am fully expecting to dislike, but with the secondary intention of maybe acquiring a taste for them.

Anyways onto the story around how I got these beers; someone I follow on Youtube had a video sponsored by this company "Beer 52", and the deal was that you could get eight cans of beer delivered to your house for just the price of the delivery, quite a good deal! Normally it's a subscription thing, they send you a box once a month, and you say whether you like just light beers, or a mixed box with a larger variety. I got the light selection, because on their website it said that this selection contained some lagers, some IPAs and some other types of beer that I don't understand and probably wouldn't like. So, after I ordered my box, I received an email from the company, that contained the information of what beers I'd be getting. There was only one lager. I was annoyed. The next day (It was quick shipping I'll give them that) they were delivered. For this reason, I'd say that Beer 52 should probably advertise what they'll send you before you purchase something from them, especially considering that the process to cancel your subscription involves calling them. Why they can't have it on their website I truly do not understand.

So what beer am I drinking this evening? It's called "Never Cursed" and is brewed by Whiplash Breweries in Dublin. Apparently it's a "Grisette", a type of light beers that originate from France and Belgium. Which is cool I guess. The website states that it has notes of elderflower and gooseberry. I can taste the elderflower, it's subtle and not unpleasant. I cannot taste the gooseberry, which is good because they taste awful. None of the multiple references to pepper that are smattered across the description can be found within the drink, just the elderflower and that nasty floral taste that you get from the hops. The floral "hoppiness" is not as strong as that of an IPA (thankfully), meaning that I can drink it without shuddering every couple of sips, but is still present enough that it remains as the sole aftertaste.

So, do I like it? Ehh not really. It's fine. I 100% wouldn't buy it for myself because honestly, if I want to get pissed I'd rather be drinking something that I like (which isn't hard I like most things at this point). If it was bought for me I could finish a pint (so happy that I only had a 330ml can), but I definitely wouldn't go back for a second.

As I reach the end of this post I wonder why I am bothering to drink this beer and write this review; there are so many other things that I could be doing with my time rather than this, and nobody will read this either. It's barely a review; my actual thoughts are one of the shortest paragraphs and certainly are not helpful or entertaining. But I will continue. Because of course I will. It's easier to write these than deal with the other things I should be doing, that would actually benefit me.
