Hello everybody and welcome back to Booze Reviews! This entry is all about the “Singlefin Lager” brewed by the Harbour Brewing Company from Cornwall.
The Harbour Brewing Company is based in Cornwall, and whilst their website is very pretty, filled with pictures of surfing and the rugged Cornish landscape, it actually contains very little information about the company. They don’t state when they were founded, or where in Cornwall the brew their beers, that information can be found in tiny letters on the beer can. Anyone know where Kirland is? Apparently it’s near Bodmin. On their manifesto page, Harbour Brewing use the phrase “We are blessed with where we live; we pay homage to our fortune through the nature of our brew” (What does that even mean anyway??). This was used twice almost next to each other, only separated with a two minutes Vimeo video that buffered for so long when I tried to watch it that I got bored and gave up.
Fun update on the Beer 52 subscription saga; on their website I set it so that it would postpone my order to send it next month (November), and I got confirmation that they acknowledged this. So, I was quite surprised when I got an email in early October saying that my next shipment had been sent to the courier and would be with me within the next 2-3 days. I now have a concerning amount of alcohol in by room, as this was a 10 can delivery rather than 8. I should be okay for review topics for quite a long time now. I plan on calling Beer 52 to cancel my subscription. If they had set it to be every other month like I asked than I would have considerd keeping it (I like supporting small businesses and I like to treat myself), but it didn’t work, and I don’t know if I trust them to make it work in the future. But in good news I now have 10 cans of German beers (October was Oktoberfest month), with much more lager compared to IPAs than the last months selection.
So, what about the beer? Oh, it’s so nice compared to those IPAs that I’ve been having recently. I like it a lot, it’s a good German style lager (which I like), with it’s link to Cornwall being that it uses Cornish water to brew the beer. But that’s fine by me; it doesn’t have to have such an interesting story as some of the other beers I’ve had recently to qualify as a good “Celtic” beer. In my eyes just being a Cornish beer that I like is good enough for me. Would I drink it again? I absolutely would, but I probably won’t buy it in can form, as whilst I like it at £2.17 a can it is quite expensive. I’ll probably stick with my 84p a can Budweiser for the time being.
(AUTHORS NOTE - Whilst I still had a small selection of the beers from my last Beer 52 order, today’s review had to be the lager. Whilst I think I have gained some tolerance for IPAs, I’m just not in the mood for one today. It’s been a bit of day to be honest.)
